The easiest way I have found to update my Joomla sites other than from the Joomla Update email is to go to cpanel in my hosting provider and there I can see what version of Joomla each of my sites is running. I can then simply click on (Ctrl+) Go to Admin Panel and then Update from there. The correct updated version of Joomla may take a while to display on cpanel.
